HERE ARE SOME TIPS ON STUNTING

if a FLYER is falling, make sure you let go of her feet.

Why? If you don't, then the flyer could flier and land on her head. Just make sure you let go of the feet once the stunt is lost, grab high for the flyer's waist, resist and bring her safely to the ground.

Backspots

When catching the flyers in cradles, the back spot is a very important part of the catch, especially for baskets and high pyramids. They are responsible for the flyer's head and neck. Here are a couple of tips for the back spot catching the cradle:

1. Eye on flyer - Always keep an eye on where she goes.

2. Shoot arms through - If there is NO room for your arms, always shoot your arms through. You have to catch the flier no matter what, because your have the most important responsibility of the catch which is the head and neck.

3. Keep thumbs tucked - If your thumbs are sticking out then there is a chance that they could get caught in someone's clothing and be strained.

4. Focus on armpits - Especially when the flyer's twisting, you must keep an eye on the flyers armpits and focus where you need to place your arms for the catch.

5. Squeeze for the catch - Squeeze your elbows/forearms into the flyer just in case she decides to not catch herself.

6. Don't punch the flyer - Don't cross your arms over as to wrap her (unless necessary). Your arms are in perfect position for punching her in the face.

7. Keep your arms up - Always be prepared with your arms up and ready to catch.

Flyers:

The best way to give you a greater chance of NOT falling to the ground in a stunt is to do the following:

1.) Wait for the pop - Don't jump out of the stunt or you will fall and be harder to catch.

2.) Keep your legs tight - If you bend your legs then you will fall faster to the ground.

3.) Ride the pop - For more height and to give more time for the bases to catch you.

4.) Pike for the cradle - Lift your legs up and make it easier for the bases to catch you.

5.) Catch your bases - Don't rely on your bases catching you… you must wrap your arms around their heads and catch yourself.

Right before the cradle the flyer needs to extend her arms and grab the bases as though they are not going to catch her. Then hold her pike for the cradle. This will ensure that the flyer holds herself up and place her weight in the bases shoulders rather than all of the weight in their arms. The bases need to reach high for the flyer with their arms, jump for the flyer, slow her down, and catch her firmly as though they are the only base around.

Tips to make your “
LIBERTY” hit:

1.) Hold your knee up - your knee/thigh should be so flat that you should be able to hold a tray of food on it. If NOT then the liberty will move forward.

2.) Hold your chest up - lift up your chest. If you slouch then the liberty will move forward.

3.) Pull up through your shoulders - use your Hi-V to pull straight up through your shoulders. Think of a string pulling up through your back. If NOT then the liberty will move forward.

4.) Squeeze your buttocks- try to imagine yourself squeezing a quarter back there. If NOT then the liberty will wobble and be loose.

5.) Chin up - look a little higher than parallel. If you don't then the liberty will move forward.

6.) Ankle tight(s) - try to roll your toes underneath. If NOT then the liberty will wobble and be difficult to hit.

Bases: catch close and with your legs

When catching a cradle bases tend to back away from the flier. This causes the base(s) to catch the flier in front of them, and use their backs. Many times bases will even hit heads when catching with another base.

The bases need to NOT be affraid to catch the flier. Once they toss her up they need to keep their arms up, reach high, catch her into their bodies, and absorb it with their legs (not back).
